Rue Mcclanahan Military - Eddie Rue McClanahan; February 21, 1934 – June 3, 2010) was an American actress and comedian best known for her television roles. Starring Vivian Harmon in Maude (1972–78), Aunt Fran Crowley in The Moms' Family (1983–84), and Blanche Devereux in The Golden Girls (1985–92), a 1987 standout comedy series. She received the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress.
Eddie-Rue McClanahan was born on February 21, 1934 in Hildton, Oklahoma. Her mother's maiden name is reported to be a variation of the Portuguese or Galician surname Medeiros ("medeiro" in Portuguese means "where the corn thrusts gather").

A member of the National Honor Society, McClanahan received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from the University of Tulsa, where he majored in both German and drama, and joined the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta.

After Maude, McClanahan starred in Norman Lear's "Apple Pie" series, which ran for only two episodes before it was cancelled. The script folder, called The Baxters, was discovered many years later as part of her personal collection.
In Mom's Family (1983–90), McClanahan played his grumpy unmarried sister Fran Crowley for mom Thelma Harper (Vicki Roth). Fran worked as a journalist for a local newspaper. The cast also included McClanahan's future Golden Girls co-star Betty White.

She voiced Scarlett in Fox's 1997 Christmas special "Annabelle's Wishes" and voiced her in the cartoons. She played Steve's grandmother in Blue's Clues video Blue's Big Treasure Hunt (1999). In Spider-Man: The Animated Series, she appeared as Anastasia Hardy in the 1994 episode "Doctor Octopus: Armed and Dangerous". She played a biology teacher in the 1997 film Starship Troopers.
She played the role of Bunny in the 2007 King of the Hill episode "Hair Today, Gone Today". In 2009, she appeared in an episode of Law & Order as a woman who had an affair with John F. Neddy.

On Broadway, McClanahan replaced Tammy Grimes as "The Guest from New York" (Hannah Waugh) in Neil Simon's California Suite from April 4, 1977 until the show ended on July 2, 1977.
In 2003, she performed with Mark Hamill in Two Hands and Six Dances in Six Weeks at the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami.
She decided not to continue with the production and was replaced by Polly Berg for the Broadway productions.
That same year, she starred as Nancy Stringer in the musical romantic comedy Fight the Temptations alongside Cuba Gooding Jr., Beyoncé Knowles, Mike Epps and Steve Harvey. On Broadway, she replaced Carol Shelley as Madame Morrible in the musical Wicked on May 31, 2005. Eight months before January 8, 2006, she was replaced by Carol Kane.

Her lifetime achievement will be honored at the Gold: A Gala Tribute to Rue McClanahan event on November 14, 2009 at the Castro Theater in San Francisco, California.
The event was postponed due to McClanahan's hospitalization. On November 4, she underwent triple bypass surgery. In March 2010, fellow Gold Girls cast member Betty White reported on The El Degeres Show that McClanahan was fine and her speech had returned to normal.
McClanahan died at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on June 3, 2010, at the age of 76, from a cerebral hemorrhage.
After cremation, her ashes were handed over to her family. Co-star Betty White told tertainmt Tonight that McClanahan was "near and dear to Freed."

McClanahan is survived by her sixth husband, Morrow Wilson, whom she separated from in 2009. Son from first marriage Mark Wish (from Austin, Texas). her younger sister, Melinda Lou McClanahan (of Silver City, New Mexico); Other family members including her niece, actress and writer Amelia.
On June 10, 2010, her New York City apartment was listed for sale with an asking price of $2.25 million.

Lou McClanahan, the Emmy-winning actress who brought to life the sexually liberated Southern belle Blanche Devereaux, has died on the hit TV series The Golden Girls. She was 76 years old.
Her manager, Barbara Lawrence, said McClanahan died of a cerebral hemorrhage at 1 a.m. Thursday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
In 1997, she underwent treatment for breast cancer, after which she spoke to cancer advocacy groups about "graceful aging." In 2009, she underwent heart bypass surgery.
