WiFi will never get a direct connection to the router via ethernet. Just because your desktop is capable of gigabyte speed doesn't mean it will be. There are many variables that affect the connection of the computer to the router or the Internet.

Verizon only knows the test to your home from there servers. They do not guarantee any speed from your router to the Internet.
