Glock 19 Extended Mag - Tyrants Design Glock 19 & 23 Magazine Extension: +5 Shots 20+1 Shots for Full 9mm Parabellum Firepower!
By Jeff Gurwitch Dec 7, 2020 When it comes to armories, nothing is reliable. For the past year I have been using the Tyrant Designs (TD) Glock 19 & 23 Magazine Extension (+5 rounds) for my Glock 19. It can currently be worn continuously (unless, of course, it is used nearby). and this is my first carry for EDC (Every Day Carry). Tyrant Designs magazine extensions are machined aluminum and come in a variety of colors. It also includes an additional warranty. For the 9mm G19 with a +5 mag extension, this means a total of 20 rounds in the magazine. Two things make the Tyrant Designs core expansion stand out: First, the mechanics. Instead of being smooth all the way through, the big appendages are… “cut” I would call them… at the corners, giving a nice look, a nice finish. Second and more important is how the extension attaches to the magazine. Instead of using some type of screw that requires a tool to tighten or a slide cover to hold it in place, the Tyrant's extended base plate uses a spring and piston to secure the base plate to the magazine. When you slide it into the magazine, the ejector pops out and locks it into place. The only tool to remove it is a flat object, such as a flat screwdriver or the side of a knife blade, which must be pressed down to remove it. Designed by Tyrant, the G19 Magazine extension extends the capacity to the standard G19 magazine up to 20 rounds. The magazine catch is held securely in place by the spring and piston, so you don't have to worry about breaking screws. So, why add extras to the G19 compact pistol? Need another round? Why not carry a G17 magazine? Sure, you can, but that gives you an extra two over the standard 15-round magazine. The Tyrant Designs G19 magazine with Mag extension has a capacity of 20+1 rounds. When holstered, carried next to the body, it has a longer profile than the G17 (Glock 17) mag, so why doesn't it go the full five rounds? (20th in the core vs. 17th). I don't usually carry a spare core for EDC. But when I did, it was easier to carry a 20 gauge bullet (G19 and extension) than two spare cards. If I'm going to use my gun, I know I'm moving and giving a lot of paint. The holstered G19 15 magazine and Tyrant Designs Magazine Extension profile is almost identical to the G17 magazine, but allows for three additional shots on top of the G17 magazine, for a total of 20 rounds. For quality and reliability, I purposely dropped the Mag extension a bit and was on the larger side to see if I could get it out. It can be handled without any problems. And, as I mentioned before, I kept it for several months at a time to see if any type of water would cause any problems. It has been working flawlessly for a year. Smallest EDC: The G19 has a spare magazine. Considering it's 20th, that's a good number to have as an extra if someone needs it. Here at DR, I've reviewed a few Tyrant Designs products (see "Related Stories" below): the Glock Extended Magazine Release, the G43 Magazine Extension, and the Halo AR-15 Hand Stop. I still use the Halo Hand Stop on my big competition guns, and I love the Glock Extended Mag Release so much that I bought two outside that we reviewed so I can use it on other Glocks. Author's Note: Check out the Tyrant Designs Halo AR-15 Series Handstop (also spelled Handstop) for better control and a frame, streamlined and minimalist profile! and Tyrant Designs Glock 43 +3 Mag (Magazine) Extension Gen4 and Gen5 Glock Extension Release Magazine: Multiple Rounds and Fast Reloading for Concealed Carry (CCW)!, one. After reviewing the Tyrant Designs Extended Magazine Edition, I liked it so much that I bought enough to wrap around all my Glocks. (from left to right: GEN 5 G19, G45, G19X). When I first got the TD G19 Mag extension (early 2020), the only option available was the G43 extension. Tyrant Designs now offers magazine extensions for the G19 series of magazines, as well as the G17 magazines: G17, 34, 19X and G45, as well as the G22. They also offer a standard washer if you want to switch from OEM plastic to aluminum and keep the capacity. They also offer a mag extender for the S&W Shield pistol. The Tyrant Designs Magazine expansion is currently available for $35.96. It's a few dollars less than most other brands, but they also offer pre-assembled Glock magazines in addition to spring loading. This is my third review of a Tyrant Designs product. If you can't tell, I'm a huge fan of these products. They offer unique and reliable aluminum products for both rifles and shotguns at extremely competitive prices. So I'm curious to see what they come up with next. How about an additional AR-15 mag and fluid mix, say plus five (+5) for 5.56mm NATO/.223 Rem. Magpul PMAG?
