He was at Long Drug Store in Colorado Springs in 1987 or 1988. I went to the drug store and bought a Colt 1911 and saw a GLOCK 17, the only model produced at the time. I fell in love with it at the time, and walked out of the drugstore with a Colt 1911. I remember how great the GLOCK 17 felt in my hand and then having two 17 round magazines with the gun. Well, no one gave you a second magazine with the gun back then. I also remember asking what the frame was made of, and the clerk at the counter could only tell me that it was some kind of "plastic". Still, I bought it anyway.

Since I first purchased a GLOCK 17, I have probably owned all models except the select GLOCK 18, as the 18 is limited to law enforcement and military sales. However, I did get a chance to shoot the GLOCK 18 and it was a blast! I worked with the late Colonel Rex Applegate on the first video produced by Paladin Publishing, and we had a prototype GLOCK 23 to play with. It worked most of the time - it came with an unmodified GLOCK 19 magazine and the revolver didn't always fit.
The weapon under discussion today is the GLOCK 19 Gen 4 9mm pistol, which is perhaps the best of its generation. It has 4 back straps, two of which make the handle slightly thicker or thicker, and two of which lengthen the waist a bit. Some glove wearers experience the slide stopping when it touches the glove hand, so when extending the back, you don't have that problem. (I've never had a problem shooting a GLOCK with gloves on.)
The GLOCK 19, Gen 4 weighs 23.65 ounces, has a 4.02-inch barrel, and a trigger pressure of about 5.5 pounds. Magazines (you get three) are 15mm by 9mm each. The barrel is hexagonal so it won't slide.
The trigger is what GLOCK calls a safe-action trigger: it has a small lever in the middle of the trigger that you can't fire the gun until your finger is activated. There are also a few built-in security measures, but you don't have to do anything. The front of the visitor has a white dot polymer, and the back is also polymer, except for the "U" shape, which is very quick to pick up. These sights aren't useful for most target shooting, but most people who buy a GLOCK do so for self-defense or service, not for target practice. If you want to put a different look on the tool, the look can be changed easily. But you will need a GLOCK front sight tool to replace the front sight.

I see no argument that the GLOCK 19 is the most popular model in the GLOCK line. The GLOCK 19 is smaller than the full-size Model 17 and larger than the Miniature Model 26 - "fair" as Goldilocks says. 19 is probably my favorite GLOCK model. My oldest daughter and wife also carry GLOCK 19's. They get a concealed weapons permit. The polymer frame has a finger bolt on the front waist, and the side and back straps have small "points" to keep the gun secure in all weather conditions.
The rebound spring adjustment is slightly beefier on the Gen 4 19 model than on previous generations. Also, you can safely shoot +P and +P+9mm in 19 without problems. The slide has a tanner coating that resists rust. I'm told this secret is harder than diamonds. Even if the black is worn off, the glaze is still there and the slide will not rust. And as mentioned, the frame is polymer.
Also, the shutter has a slight addition: when there is a round in the camera, you can see or feel a small bump in the shutter.
All GLOCKs can be disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. Just remove the magazine, check the chamber to make sure there are no rounds in the barrel, and point the gun in a safe direction and pull the trigger. Remove the slide when this is done
