Sni has been with BAS since March 2013. He did the cleaning, decluttering and cataloging. What he loves about his job is memorizing parts books and learning more about parts.

First I had to remove the fuel tank in the back of the plane to easily get to some things that needed to be finished. With that tank removed, I could easily put the shutoff valve in place and make a support for the Bowden cable that goes forward into the keel to move that valve.
With the tank out, I can now easily drill holes in the torsion arm to mount the springs as well as the servo roller mount. I then removed the torsion bar and removed the rear torsion tube in the keel to drill a hole through the two to connect the two as per the instructions. I drilled a 64/11" hole, then reamed it to 16/3" to stay tight. I then reinstalled both on the plane using the dot tail bearing and installed the AN3-11A washer screw.
Chevrolet Corvette C5 Automatic Torque Tube Assembly / 12564456 / C5012
Then it was time to do the same for the front tube assembly. I removed all the tubes and the universal joint from the plane and drilled two holes through each end of the unit joint and the torsional twist tubes using the same method. I reattached them, put in the bolts and nuts, and the finished bowl went back on the plane. The front torsion tube has a smaller diameter that fits perfectly into the rear tube, and this connection is drilled out later when we line up the vents and side bars.
About the Sieders Family I am the homebuilder of the Velocity XL-5 FG homeplane. I took delivery in May 2011 from Tom Tolton who started the kit and decided to sell it when he was almost done with the airframe. We also began rebuilding the Harvard Mk.IV in North America. Together with the school in Nashville, we hope to get this plane back in the air. A new project we have is our new home in Duke State, North Carolina. We hope to complete it in the spring of 2023.
